Finding Help When You Need It
It’s likely that everything made sense as you read through this document. None of it seemed to be too complicated. But now that you are at the end, the overwhelming feeling is returning. Just like that long temple stairway, you just need to tackle it one step at a time. Let me assure you, you can do it if you really set your mind to it. Many people still find it more appealing to seek help from someone that they consider to be “more technical.” While others may be able to make more money creating products to sell, rather than figuring out how to be a marketer. That makes perfect sense and may be a wise choice. The best advice I can give, if you do seek help, is to get someone that knows what they are doing. Having your neighbor’s son help may be cheap, but you get what you pay for. There is a right and wrong way to do things, and the efficiency gains of doing things the right way will exceed the investment. This efficiency may come in the form of maintenance and user experience, or it could be a better performing ad campaign that is lower in cost and highly effective.
How to Choose an Agency
First of all, you don’t need to work with someone local to your business. In today’s connected world, you can use an agency that is next door or in another country. The reality is that the space where you are working in the Internet, so physical distance does not have a big impact. The only consideration about distance is related to product images and photography. If your agency is not local, then you will need to provide the photography, or get someone local to you to take pictures. Otherwise, the work can be done by any number of digital agencies. Some will be boutique agencies that serve niche markets, and others will be more aligned with enterprise customers. Your best approach would be to document your requirements and give it to a few agencies to bid. This will give you an idea of the total cost. You may not always want to go with the lowest bidder. Make sure you know what services are in and out of scope. Also, if you have a budget for the project, let them know and ask them to work with you to stay within the budget. When you are working on an hourly basis, the rate may seem high, but the cost is often offset by experience. I find that many tasks that clients request can be completed in a few minutes, where a less experienced person may take an hour. In the end, the high-priced agent is lower in total cost.
